Below is a message from Ecology Ottawa regarding a petition to prevent untreated waste water from being diverted into the Ottawa river:
Dear Neighbour,
Sorry I missed you. This past evening, local volunteers from Ecology
Ottawa and I were canvassing our neighbourhood to gather signatures
to support the city’s Ottawa River Action Plan.
Every year hundreds of millions of litres of water containing raw
sewage are spilled into our rivers. Because of these contaminants,
swimming areas are closed and the risks of sickness and infection are
greatly increased.
Unfortunately, our federal and provincial governments have decided
not to support the city’s plan to stop this. This petition will change that.
Please consider signing our petition online and add your voice to the
rest of our neighbourhood’s and the thousands of others from our city
who want an end to this appalling situation.
