The Cardnal Creek Comunity Organisation has received great news from Donna Cansfield, Minister of Natural Resources: the Karst has been designated as an Area of Natural and Scientific Interest by the Ontario government.
Below is the letter from the Minister:
Dear Mr. Crossan:
Thank you for your e-mail regarding the Cardinal Creek Karst feature in the City of Ottawa. I am pleased to respond.
I understand that all necessary evaluation and identification documentation has now been signed by appropriate Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) staff. The documentation confirms the Cardinal Creek Karst feature, located on property owned by the City of Ottawa in the area south of Watters Road, as a provincially significant earth science Area of Natural and Scientific Interest (ANSI).
The ministry's Kemptville District Office will be sending out a complete confirmation package for this ANSI to the attention of Jean-Francois Claude, President of the Cardinal Creek Community Association, in the immediate future.
We trust that the confirmation of the karst area as an earth science ANSI of provincial significance will enhance its recognition as a unique natural feature and further its long-term protection.
I appreciate the support that the Cardinal Creek Community Association has provided in identifying the importance of this provincially significant earth science feature.
Again, thank you for writing.
Sincerely,
Original Signed By
Donna Cansfield
Minister of Natural Resources
cc: Jean-Francois Claude, President, Cardinal Creek Community Association
We have also received the final technical designation information for the Cardinal Creek karst in the City of Ottawa that we have been working with your association and the City on this past year.
The Cardinal Creek karst ANSI currently consists of City of Ottawa lands designated as PIN 145260100. The Karst location is approximately indicated as point "A" on our map. The Karst itself extends further north of Watters road onto private property, and the Ministry is trying to work with the land owner to extend the ANSI boundary to include the entirety of the Karst.
