Interprovincial Bridge Meeting Sept 24
Chers résidents, chères résidentes,
Dear Neighbours,

On September 4, 2008, the National Capital Commission, the Ontario and Quebec ministries of Transportation and the ROCHE-NCE consultants released the preliminary findings regarding the Environmental Assessment of Interprovincial Bridge Crossings. After evaluating nearly 100 criteria and results from transportation, natural environment, social environment and cost perspectives, the Kettle Island corridor was identified as the highest priority bridge crossing at 80.30%.

Although the preliminary findings clearly identify Kettle Island as the best location of 10 possible interprovincial bridge crossings, the battle for an east end bridge crossing is just starting. The Manor Park Community Association, along with high powered lawyers, Rockcliffe Park resources and their federal and provincial representatives have indicated that they will fight against the Kettle Island bridge crossing.  See today's The Ottawa Citizen for an in-depth news story on this subject.

The draft findings will be presented at a public meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 24 at Lansdowne Park (Salon A) from 7 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The open house will start at 5 p.m. and the session is planned to finish at 9 p.m.  We anticipate that residents in the Kettle Island corridor will attempt to stack Wednesday's meeting to voice their opposition to the recommended bridge location.  Any other bridge  location east of Kettle Island will have a negative impact on Orléans communities, such as increased traffic tie-ups on the 174 causing further delays in our morning and evening commutes.

We hope to see you there this Wednesday to support our east end city councillors and voice your support for the Kettle Island bridge option.

Regards,

Jean-François Claude, President

Meet your federal election candidates
On October 7th from 7:30pm to 8:30pm, the CCCA hosts an all candidate Meet and Greet at the South Fallingbrook Community Center, 998 Valin Street.

Candidats from the four major parties have been invited for the electoral districts of Ottawa-Orléans et Glengarry-Prescott-Russell.

The format for the evening is quite simple: each candidate will be given 3 minutes to speak.  There will be NO formal question-and-answer session following candidates' remarks; instead, candidates are invited to informally mingle with our residents afterwards over refreshments to respond to any questions individuals may choose to raise with you directly.

As there will more than likely be two representatives from each major political party, we encourage all candidates to use their alloted 3 minutes to introduce themselves and their local riding priorities for the upcoming Parliamentary term, as opposed to presenting elements of your respective parties' national platforms.
