Call for Volunteers for Saturday, July 19
Check Your Watershed Day is a one day, annual event that agencies are taking part in across Ontario on Saturday, July 19. It is a chance for people to learn first-hand about their local streams and watersheds and how they are monitored.
The City Stream Watch program is excited to bring you this event, with sites on all four of the Ottawa streams being surveyed this year! The day will be split between seining and fish identification and macroinvertebrate sampling (animals that live on rocks, logs, sediment, debris and aquatic plants). Volunteers will be split into teams, and each team will be assigned a creek to sample. The 2008 City Stream Watch creeks are located in east, west, south and central Ottawa, so there is a lot of opportunity to visit a creek close to you! Lunch will be generously provided by the Monterey Inn Resort & Conference Centre for all volunteers.
Please register by July 14 by email or phone, and indicate which area you are closest to, or which area you would like to sample in Orleans, central Ottawa, Barrhaven or Manotick. Once you are signed up, meeting locations will be arranged.
WHEN: Saturday, July 19, 2008, 9 am to 2 pm CREEK SITES: Black Rapids Creek, Cardinal Creek, Sawmill Creek, Mud Creek PLEASE BRING: Drinking water, sun block, rubber boots or sturdy footwear
