Petrie Island Junior Naturalist Program for Kids 2 - 6

The Friend of Petrie Island are running a Junior Naturalist Program for children in our communities.

There were 3 trial sessions in the month of June and the feedback was so positive that the program will continue running up to and including the month of October.  The current program is for children 2 - 6 although a program for older youth is also being considered.

Current schedule for July

Friday July 6th - 9:30am to 10:30am

Thursday July 12th - 9:30am to 10:30am

Friday July 20th - 9:30am to 10:30am

Celebrate Canada Day at Petrie Island

Greater Orleans Canada Day Celebrations will be taking place at Petrie Island again this year!

Activities are scheduled from 11 am right until the park closes at midnight.  Parking will be available a short distance away with shuttle service to the island.  Bikes are always a great way to there, or it is only a short walk from the OC Transpo Park & Ride where there will be service to and from Place d'Orleans every 15 minutes throughout the day.

By becoming a member of the Canada Day Club, donations of at least $100 will receive preferred parking and complimentary food and drink tickets for 4.

Park-ticipate this Summer!

Summer 2007 Parks Program for Kids will be running for 8 weeks from July 3 to August 24.

The goal of the Park-ticipate Program is to have a team of trained counsellors drop in on selected locations to run recreation activities such as games, crafts and sports with kids.  The program is a drop-in basis, free of charge and being offered in the following community locations:

Cassia Park - Thursday's - 11:00am to 12:30pm

Millennium Park - Thursday's - 9:00am to 10:30am

Varennes Park - Tuesday's - 1:30pm to 3:00pm

Marcel Lalande - Friday's - 9:00am to 10:30am

Interprovincial Crossing Public Consultation

Open House Thursday, June 14 from 5:00pm until 9:00pm - Sir Wilfred Laurier High School Cafeteria - 1515 Tenth Line Rd.

Roche NCE, the consultant for the Interprovincial Crossing Environmental Assessment (EA), will be holding the first open house regarding this phase of Environment Assessment.  Public input is being requested on the draft terms of reference, the study process, the preliminary alternative planning solutions and preliminary optional crossing alternatives.

Cardinal Creek area residents should be aware that 3 of the interprovincial crossing options being considered are within the Orleans area - one which will involve a crossing at Petrie Island.

All residents are encouraged to attend the open house and make your opinion known.
