We are ready to start booking stream monitoring surveys for June in Cardinal Creek

Stream surveys are scheduled with 1 or 2 volunteers and one staff member from our City Stream Watch staff crew. It is best to allow at least three hours to participate in stream surveys, which include meeting at the site (the meeting site is near the creek), putting equipment on, running through safety procedures, hiking to the creek, and completing a few sections of the survey. We can accommodate evenings if volunteers are limited to them.
We build the schedule based on what days and times volunteers are available to come out, and we do our very best to accommodate everyone’s preferences and give everyone the chance to come out during the schedule period. We apologize in advance if we can’t accommodate all of your requests!
If you would like to participate in stream surveys, please review the survey availability below and make sure to send an email to City Stream Watch Coordinator citystreamwatch@rvca.ca with the following information:

Please indicate which day(s) you are available to help:
- June 9 and 10 (Thursday-Friday)
- June 11 (Saturday) Stream cleanup
- June 13,14,15,16,17 (Monday-Friday)
- June 18 (Saturday)
- June 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 (Monday-Friday)
- June 27, 28, 29, 30 (Monday to Thursday)
Please indicate your preferred shift during each day (start and end times are flexible to accommodate volunteer schedules):
- Available all day (approximately 9am to 3pm)
- Available in the morning ( approximately 9am to 12pm)
- Available in the afternoon (approximately 12pm to 3pm)
- Available in the evening (approximately 6pm to 8.30pm)
Please indicate your preference from the following list of creeks:
- Barrhaven Creek (Barrhaven)
- Sawmill Creek (Ottawa South)
- Cardinal Creek (Orleans)
Once we have everyone’s available dates and times, and the creek preference we will make the schedule, and then we will email you back individually with the date(s) and time(s) that we have scheduled you to join us for surveys in June.
As part of our obligations under RVCA’s health and Safety policy, please see the I have attached our participant guide, with a list of possible hazards that could be encountered during stream surveys. The potential hazards are specific to each site and will be covered on the day of the survey. Please take a minute to review the attachment and let me know if you have any questions.

La surveillance des cours d’eau nécessitent 1 ou 2 bénévoles qui seront supervisés par un coordonnateur du programme de surveillance des cours d’eau. Le nombre d’heures minimal est de 3 heures. Ceci inclue la rencontre près du cours d’eau, la mise en place de l’équipement, les procédures de sécurité, le déplacement jusqu’au ruisseau, et la prise de mesures. Il est possible de participer en soirée.
Nous établissons la cédule en fonction des disponibilités des bénévoles. Nous nous excusons à l’avance si nous ne pouvons pas accommoder vos horaires.

La Rideau Valley Conservation Authority est dans l’obligation de vous communiquer son Guide de Participation énumérant les risques inhérents à la participation à un programme de surveillance des cours d’eau.
